Pete's Dragon the 1977 film that put Passamaquoddy on the map is being remade. Rumors have circulated for years that a non musical version was being shopped around the studio lots and this fall it was confirmed by AV News that actor Robert Redford has accepted a role in the film. The AV article suggests that Redford will be playing Nora's father and local lighthouse keeper "Lampy"

I recently polled patrons at Robinson's Brew-house
and asked them for their thoughts on the remake and what casting choices they would like to see. The initial response from those interviewed was "Don't bother me while I'm enjoying my beer Fred" which was generally followed by "Why don't you buy me a beer Fred?" Needless to say after several interviews I was feeling pretty good and Imma was called to drive me home.

After reviewing my notes the majority of those responding felt that a remake was not needed. However a small but vocal number of citizens felt that if it drove more tourism to our town it would be a good and much needed thing. The consensus being that a major increase in tourism is needed to off set the debt created by this years roll out of PirateyBands. An idea that sounded fine on paper but has been plagued with problems since it was launched. The problems surrounding PirateyBands is another story which we may visit at a later date.

In keeping with today's story here is a list of the actors and actresses and the roles for which they were most frequently mentioned during the survey.<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

I’m so glad you asked. You did ask didn’t you? I guess it all comes down to that fine line of truth that often exists between fact and fiction. This blog is intended to be a companion to Glenn Whelan’s Passamaquoddy.blog.com. If you are a fan of the Disney theme parks and have a good sense of humor, Glenn's blog is for you. When visiting Passamaquoddy, you will be treated to actual reviews on Disney topics such as dining, music, art, dining, movies, Broadway productions, attractions and of course my personal favorite dining.

You will also learn that Passamaquoddians are big Disney fans. So much so that they have themed most of the town around their own versions of the theme parks attractions and shows. The many attractions around town remain for the most part faithful in design to their Disney counter parts, however most have nautical themes.

Many local businesses capitalize on the use of Disney based names. Grumpy’s Gym and Sand Dollar Ella’s are just two such examples.

Be sure to stop by Passamaquoddy, we hope you'll enjoy your stay and come back often.

Fred.

To use this companion guide simply visit the categorized links in the left hand column. There you will find brief descriptions and direct links to the original Passamaquoddy posts.

And now before your tour begins here's a word from Glenn.

Since I was young, good Lord there’s one spot, One little bit of heaven on my tongue…

Why it’s…

Passamaquoddy.

No, I’ve never been to Maine. My only attachment to Passamaquoddy is it’s placement in Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON. That film holds a great spot in my childhood. Now, many years later, I still am a big fan of Disney: the movies, the company itself, the fans and of course, its theme parks.

With many of my friends showing their appreciation through blogs, websites, podcasts and books, I only thought it right that I do a bit of my own.

So, I will jot my thoughts when I find the time. I can’t guarantee the frequency, but hopefully, your stay in Passamaquoddy will be a pleasant one.

Just watch out for the Gogans!

Glenn
Fred Appletonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12542492881181666567noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1363627847765013167.post-88653843803800991582009-08-13T08:24:00.000-07:002009-12-05T04:22:52.225-08:00The Ellenshaw Museum

Located near Sand Dollar Ellas is The Ellenshaw Museum. It's a wonderful celebration of the birth of french author "Jules Gabriel Verne" (February 8,1828–March 24,1905)

Verne is best known as a writer of science fiction. In the mid 1800's his vivid imagination produced such works as A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), From the Earth to the Moon (1865), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1869–1870), Around the World in Eighty Days (1873) and The Mysterious Island (1875).

Many of the subjects Verne wrote about such as space, air, and underwater travel were decades away from becoming reality. He dared to think that if we can dream it then we can do it. A philosophy that would inspire inventive minds for years to come. Such thinking would leave its mark on another famous man known throughout Passamaquoddy, Walt Disney. In the mid 1900's through the medium of film the Walt Disney studios brought a number of Verne's works to the big screen. Here is a preview of one of our Disney favorites, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Following the trailer be sure to visit the links below to learn even more about Verne Week.

Vern Week Starts With a Quick Pace

Verne Week Marathon Results 2008

Verne Week Continues

All About the Verne: Bryan Ripper

Quoddesigners: 20,000 Riders can’t be wrong!

Starting the Rumor Mill… Under the Sea

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371146646335367170" style="DISPLAY: block;
